when a soil is said to be fertile, it's top layer consists a lot of humus i.e organic matter. Organic matter helps plants grow and become full of nutrients..If the soil is infertile , there are less nutrients in crops. Hence farmers carry out monthly soil test before sowing seeds..Soils' fertility is the main component in farming.
