October 18, 1861, Lt Singer, Third Class Deputy Commissioner, appeared at Phulaguri simultaneously with a jail officer and started discussion with the farmers who had assembled there, but the circumstances soon transformed into violence and Singer, along with a several policemen, were mauled to death and his remains was discharged into the Kollong river.
