Answer:

1) The Indian desert extends towards the Western edge of the Aravali ranges. It is a moving sandy field embraced with sand knolls. This area experiences below 150 mm per year rainfall, which is very low. The arid climate and moderate vegetation are the two most important features of the Indian desert.

2)The Central Highland is the land between the north and south part of India in an elevated position. The central highland covers the Indian states of Rajastan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and bounded by the Aravalli Ranges, the eastern highlands, Narmada River, Deccan Plateau and the Northern Plains of India.

3)india has two main important groups of islands-the Lakshadweep islands and the Andaman and Nicobar islands. While the Lakshadweep islands are located in the Arabian Sea, the Andaman and Nicobar islands lie in the Bay of Bengal. The Lakshadweep group of islands are composed of small coral islands.

Answer:

1. The Indian Desert :

The western part of the great plain of India consists of the Thar or the Great Indian Desert which covers western Rajasthan. The desert is about 650 miles long and 250-300 km wide. Its total area is about 1.75 lakh sq km. About two third of the Indian desert lies in Rajasthan, west of the Aravali Range, and the remaining one third is in the neighbouring states of Haryana, Punjab, and Gujarat. The vast desert is an undulating plain whose average elevation is about 325m above mean sea level.

2. The Central Highlands :

The part of the peninsular plateau lying to the north of the Narmada River covering a major area of the Malwa plateau is known as the Central Highlands.

The Vindhyan range is bounded by the Central Highlands on the south and the Aravali range on the northwest.

The flow of the rivers draining this region, namely the Chambal, the Sind, the Betwa and Ken is from southwest to northeast, thus indicating the slope.

The Central Highlands are wider in the west but narrower in the east.  The eastward extensions of this plateau are locally known as the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand.

The Chotanagpur plateau marks the further eastward extension, drained by the Damodar River

3. The Island Groups of India :

The Lakshadweep Islands are in the Arabian Sea. Its area is 32 sq km. The administrative headquarters of Lakshadweep is at Kavaratti island. This group of islands is rich in terms of biodiversity.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are bigger in size and has number of islands. This group of islands can be divided into two groups. The Andaman is in the north and the Nicobar is in the south. These islands too have rich biodiversity.
