Extension By Magnification

• An extension tube increases lens magnification by an amount equal to the extension distance divided by the lens focal length. For example, adding a 25 mm extension tube to a 50 mm lens will give a magnification gain of 0.5X. ... The closest focusing distance will also decrease to ~210 mm.

Multiple Meaning of Words

• Homonyms, or multiple-meaning words, are words that have the same spelling and usually sound alike, but have different meanings (e.g. dog bark, tree bark). Beginning in kindergarten, children learn to use context to determine which meaning of a multiple-meaning word is correct in a sentence.

Different Types of Homonyms

• Homonyms are words that have different meanings but are pronounced or spelled the same way. There are two types of homonyms: homophones and homographs. Homophones sound the same but are often spelled differently.

Overlap of Meaning In Concrete Nouns

• There are groups of concrete nouns - standing as names for objects, places and persons - which overlap in their meanings. But they also differ according to their special function or use, the place they are generally found in, and the nature of their work.

Structure Words and Content Words

• Nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs are content parts of speech. Function words are words that exist to explain or create grammatical or structural relationships into which the content words may fit. Words like "of," "the," "to," they have little meaning on their own.

Phrasal Verbs

• A phrasal verb is a verb plus a preposition or adverb which creates a meaning different from the original verb. Example: I ran into my teacher at the movies last night. run + into = meet. He ran away when he was 15.
