Maharashtra, as a very capitalistic state, is facing several issues every capitalistic country faces. The severity of problems I have mentioned are in a decreasing order.
Uncontrolled migration - Maharashtra has the highest migration from other states of India because of better job opportunities, good schools and colleges, more profitable businesses and ease of living. It is situated in the middle and easily accessible for North as well as South. Many poor families are just coming to cities here and living under bridges, subways, in slums or in ghettos, etc. It is believed that there are many illegal Bangladeshis and Nepalis living in Mumbai and Thane. There is a tremendous increase in the population of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Nashik, despite the state infertility rate below replacement level. The communists and socialist states are not encouraging industrialization or business-friendly environment in their states, boasting about their secularism and untouched environment, yet their people come to capitalistic states only for their bread and butter. Hypocrisy much!
