Resistance:- A measure of the degree to which a substance impedes the flow of electric current induced by a voltage. Resistance is measured in ohms. Good conductors, such as copper, have low resistance. Good insulators, such as rubber, have high resistance. Resistance causes electrical energy to be dissipated as heat.
Resistivity:- The resistivity of a material is the resistance of a wire of that material of unit length and unit cross-sectional area. The unit for resistivity is the ohm-metre. The resistivity of a material depends on its nature and the temperature of the conductor, but not on its shape and size.
Conductance is the opposite of resistance: the measure of how easy it is for electric current to flow through something. Conductance is symbolized with the letter “G” and is measured in units of mhos or Siemens. Mathematically, conductance equals the reciprocal of resistance: G = 1/R.
Conductivity (or specific conductance) of an electrolyte solution is a measure of its ability to conduct electricity. The SI unit of conductivity is Siemens per meter (S/m).
Conductivity measurements are used routinely in many industrial and environmental applications as a fast, inexpensive and reliable way of measuring the ionic content in a solution.[1] For example, the measurement of product conductivity is a typical way to monitor and continuously trend the performance of water purification systems.
