While doing the calculation we often come across very large or very small numbers.
To avoid the confusions in case of the smaller or large numbers containing the decimals, we follow the Procedure of the Round-off, in which we remove some numbers provided that they are on the right side of the decimals as per as some basic rules of the Round off.

Rules of the Round-off are ⇒

1. If the digit coming after the desired numbers of the significant figures happens to be more than the 5, then the Preceding number will be increased by 1.

2. If the digits coming after the desired numbers of the significant figures is less than 5, then the Preceding digits will remains unchanged.

3. If the digit coming after the desired numbers of the significant numbers is 5, then the Preceding digits will be increased by 1 only if it is odd.

4. If the digit coming after the desired numbers of the significant numbers is 5, then the Preceding digits will remains unchanged if it is even.

Although, Rule 3 and 4 will only be followed if the digits to be dropped is five only. If there are some more digits after the 5, then the Preceding digits will increases independent of the Even and off numbers.

Hope it helps.

Answer:

Rounding means replacing a number with an approximate value that has a shorter, simpler, or more explicit representation

Rounding is often done to obtain a value that is easier to report and communicate than the original. Rounding can also be important to avoid misleadingly precise reporting of a computed number, measurement or estimate; for example, a quantity that was computed as 123,456 but is known to be accurate only to within a few hundred units is usually better stated as "about 123,500".
