Significance of Meiosis:
1. Formation of Gametes-
Meiosis produces gametes which
take part in Sexual
reproduction.
2. Maintenance of Chromosome
number- During sexual
reproduction, the haploid
gametes resulting from meiosis,
unite to form Diploid Zygote.
Thus the chromosome number is
restored.
3. Introduction of variation-
New combinations of genetic
material takes place during
crossing over. This brings about
variations in the Offspring.
