(a) The sexual characteristics controlled by hormones which distinguish between sexually mature males and females but are not directly involved in reproduction are called secondary sexual characters.
The secondary sexual characters in males are:-
1. Hair growth on face in the form of moustache and beard.
2. chest and shoulder broadens.
3. Enlargement of penis and testis.
4.Appearance of Adam's apple in front of throat.
5. A deeper voice or low pitch voice.
The secondary sexual characteristics in females are:-
1. Development of breast.
2. Hips broaden and become more curved.
3.A shrill or high pitched voice.
4.Growth of hairs in pubic region.
5. Menstruation starts.

(b) The voice box or the larnyx begin to grow at puberty. It can be seen as a protruding part of the throat which is called Adam's apple.
