The 'Ain-i-Akbari' was written by Abul Fazal, the minister and one of the nine jewels of Akbar's court. It is one of the most important source materials on the administration and culture during the reign of Akbar. It is divided into five volumes. The first volume deals with the family of the emperor.

Akbar Nama was a three volume history of Akbar's reign written by Abul Fazal. The first volume dealt with Akbar's ancestors and the second volume recorded the events of Akbar's reign. The third volume was the Ain- i - Akbari.  It deals with Akbar's administration, household, army, revenues, traditions etc. of his empire.
