Some of the important features of retreating monsoon are as follows:
1. Retreating monsoons are mainly observed during the month of October and November. It is due to the south-west monsoon winds that weaken.
2. A period of transition( hot rainy season to cold winter season) is observed.
3. An incidence of 'October heat' which is marked by high temperature, clear skies and humidity is observed.
4. Conditions of low pressure( leading to high rainfall) observed in the Bay of Bengal, thereby leading to cyclonic depression in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu.
