What is Muscular Tissue?

  • Muscular tissue constitutes of all the muscles of the body of an animal.
  • Muscles cells are also called muscle fibers.
  • Muscles cells are typically arranged by allowing them to work together efficiently.
  • Muscular tissue is responsible for the movement of muscles.

On the basis of their location, structure and function these tissues are divided into three types :

  • Straightened Muscles : Present in the wall of alimentary canal, blood vessels, respiratory track, urinary bladder.
  • Smooth Muscles : Present in limbs, tongue, body wall and pharynx.
  • Cardiac Muscles : These are present in the walls of heart. Cardiac muscles cylindrical, branched.
