      Women's Education

This lesson is written by Dr.S.Radhakrishnan, a renowned philosopher, and statesman. The lesson aims to overturn the subjugation of women in the country as we all know the education of girls which is not wide-scale. The author voices his concerns that the education of women should be deep.He points that if we have good mothers, we'll have a great nation. The author calls for a purpose in life imparted to women through education because without it, life will be blind, bitter and a blunder.

Women are capable of working with dedication and discipline in every field. As they are getting opportunities, they are proving that women are no less than men. They should have disciplined minds and honesty towards their goal to succeed. Compassion is a virtue of women. Inhuman is the one who loses compassion, kindness, considerateness.

He quotes Gita : "vyavasayatmika buddhir ekeha" meaning "for a truly cultured mind, there is a single-mindedness, a dedication to A single purpose." He says that the path to the purpose of life is through education which makes life clear.

Education is a pathway, but we have to find meaning ourselves. Education gives us the knowledge to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong.

The purpose that we undertake in our life should pertain to our current environment.

In this world, the two fruits cannot be imitated. One, study of great classics; second, communion with great minds.Self-control, restraint is the mark of a good human being and constitutes the essenceof good life.

In ancient times women could study Vedas and Upanishads. They could chant the Gayatri mantra. But gradually civilization decayed and women were kept aside of these rituals. Women are now getting their rights once again

Therefore, through this lesson he tells us that uneducated women are decay of the society. The positive after-effects and the need of the hour to educate women are been highlighted and the true meaning of education and its aims are unveiled.

Explanation:

 \huge \boxed{ \red{SUMMARY}}

The writer says that this is an age of women. Women are working with dedication and discipline in every field. The author suggests to women that whatever career path they choose to go on, they should have disciplined minds, and honesty. They should work towards their goal honestly.

According to the author, in our country, education of girls is not wide-scale. For this matter, any institution that uplifts women through providing them education is worthy of fame.

However, the author voices his concerns that the education of women should be deep.

S. Radhakrishnan calls for a purpose in life imparted to women through education because without it, life will be blind, bitter and a blunder.

The Gita says : "vyavasayatmika buddhir ekeha" meaning "for a truly cultured mind, there is a single mindedness, a dedication to single purpose." For an uncultured mind, the whole life is scattered in many directions : "bahusakha hyananscta".

Education is a pathway, but we have to find meaning ourselves. Education gives us 'viveka' meaning the knowledge to "discern" or "discriminate" right from wrong.

'Vimarsarupini vidya' gives us a sense of right and wrong. So, the purpose that we undertake in our life should pertain to our current environment.

The teacher and the student should not hate each other, and for this, "santih, santih, santih" is chanted at the end of the hymns so that peace is maintained.

Compassion is a virtue of women. Radhakrishnan posits that when one loses compassion, kindness, considerateness, he becomes inhuman. Without these qualities, people are only "nar pasu", nothing more than that.

He quotes a sanskrit saying, " Samsara visa vrkasaya". In this world (samsara), the two fruits cannot be imitated. One, study of great classics; second, communion with great minds.

Radhakrishnan urges the readers to study classics of India and of other countries. It is put in an Upanishad in dialogues between a teacher and a student. The student asks "What constitutes the essence of good life? The teacher replies," Didn't you hear the answer?" There is a thunderclap: da da da. The teacher explains : Dama, Dana, daya. Dama is self-control, restraint, which is the mark of a good human being.

In the Ramayana, when Lakshmana sets out for the forest, his mother tells him : "look upon Rama as your father, Dasaratha: Look upon Sita as myself, as your mother: Look upon the forest as Ayodhya; go my dear."

He argues that if we have good mothers, we'll have a great nation.

The aim of education world over is limited to knowledge of the world and learning of a technical skill to earn livelihood. The goal of education imparted in our country is initiation into higher life, initiation into a world that transcends Space and Time.

Radhakrishnan gets sad for the centuries we have missed in which we did not educate women.
