Everyone has the desire to win. The feeling of victory, whether competitively in a sport's contest or personally, makes one feel like they are at the top of the world and cannot be taken down. According to the Webster's New World Dictionary, victory is described as, “the winning of a battle, war, or any struggle” (658). The word victory is commonly used when talking about sports. Those who are striving to win play these sports, and personally, the taste of victory after a win is an incredible feeling of abundant pride. When talking about professionals or a team composed of young kids playing the sports they love, there is always the need to win to motivate a team. Whenever I step onto a basketball court and play the game, I always have that desire to win. The adrenaline and intensity I feel when competing on the court is a feeling I live for. The intensity and competitiveness of the game only makes the feeling of victory at the end that much more worth it. Earning a victory is especially satisfactory if there is personal meaning to the game. There is added motivation for me, for example, if there I have a game against a team that has beaten my team before, and we want to exact revenge to make a statement. My desire for victory is intense because I spite the feeling of defeat, like many other athletes. Victory happens all around us and most consider it as an accomplishment for those who set long-term goals to meet or exceed them. Personal victories are met with perseverance and confidence in one's own ability to finish what they started. For someone who is overweight, setting a simple goal, like losing weight by running at least a mile once every week for a whole year and accomplishing that can be big for someone who is trying to turn their life around by living a healthier lifestyle. These small personal and moral victories can turn out to be the turning point of someone's life.
hope it helps
