The Titanic hit the iceberg at high speed. But the alarm was not sounded immediately. Most of the passenger were unaware of the mishap. Panic occured at the last moment.

Against regulations, there was shortage of lifeboats and not one for each passenger. A drill to abandon ship was never practised by the crew. This means the evacuation from the Titanic was not systematic or orderly.
