Answer:

1.....The Constitution of South Africa is the supreme law of the Republic of South Africa. It provides the legal foundation for the existence of the republic, it sets out the rights and duties of its citizens, and defines the structure of the Government. The current constitution, the country's fifth, was drawn up by the Parliament elected in 1994 in the South African general election, 1994. It was promulgated by President Nelson Mandela on 18 December 1996 and came into effect on 4 February 1997, replacing the Interim Constitution of 1993

Since 1996, the Constitution has been amended by seventeen amendment acts. The Constitution is formally entitled the "Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996." It was previously also numbered as if it were an Act of Parliament—Act No. 108 of 1996—but, since the passage of the Citation of Constitutional Laws Act, neither it nor the acts amending it are allocated act numbers

The South African example is a good way to understand why we need a constitution and what do constitutions do. The South African constitution inspires democrats all over the world.

Explanation:

  • Following the emergence of the "new democratic South Africa", the Afro-American leaders made an appeal to black people to pardon the white for their atrocities in power.
  • It was decided to create a New South Africa centred  on equality amongst all races & men & women democracy, social justice and civil rights,The party which had ruled through brutal killings & oppression, as well as, the party that guided the struggle for freedom sat together to draft a common constitution.
  • They returned with one of the world's best constitutions after two years of dialogue and debate. This Constitution has granted its people the fullest possible freedoms available in any nations.
  • They collectively agreed that none should be disqualified, nobody should be treated like a demon. They decided that everyone, irrespective of what they have achieved or represented in the past, would become "part of the solution". This spirit is summed up in the "Preamble" to the "South African Constitution".
