Classification of Hydrocarbons:

• Any two carbon atoms of a hydrocarbon may combine through a single, double or triple bonds.
• Depending upon the manner of attachment of carbon atoms, hydrocarbons can be classified into three major classes - saturated hydrocarbons, unsaturated hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons.
• Saturated hydrocarbons are of two types that is alkanes and cycloalkanes.
• Unsaturated hydrocarbons are of two types alkenes and alkynes.
