There were a lot of irrigation practices in India. They were 1) Canal Irrigation. 2) Well Irrigation. 3) Ground water Irrigation. India's irrigation is completely based on Ground water irrigation. According to the World Bank only 35% of the total agricultural land is irrigated in 2010. The change in cropping pattern happens due to the failure of the South - West and North East Monsoons and it is also due to the insufficiency of the water in rivers like Cauvery, Krishna etc. Farmers are forced to change the cropping pattern to avoid huge losses.
