When Magnesium ribbon is introduced in a jar containig Oxygen,the ribbon vigorously react to burn and produce Magnesium Oxide. It is an exothermic reaction as Mg is burnt by oxygen. So if u touch the jar immediately after the reaction, u will feel it's hot.

NOTE:It doesn't require any external heat to be provided for the Mg ribbon to burn....bcz oxygen is itself a reactive non-metal.
