Hi dear ♥️!

One of the hydrogen atoms in the methane has been replaced by a chlorine atom, so this is a substitution reaction. However, the reaction doesn't stop there, and all the hydrogens in the methane can in turn be replaced by chlorine atoms.

Dear Student,

◆ Answer -

CH4 + X2 --> CH3X + H-X

● Explanation -

Molecular formula of methane is CH4. When it reacts with halogen molecule X2, one hydrogen is replaced by X.

CH4 + X2 --> CH3X + H-X

When supply of halogen is sufficient, it undergoes multiple substitution.

CH4 + X2 --> CH3X + H-X

CH3X + X2 --> CH2X2 + H-X

CH2X2 + X2 --> CHX3 + H-X

CHX3 + X2 --> CX4 + H-X

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you..
