Writing chemical formula :

The following steps should be taken while attempting to write a formula the method is called Criss cross method .

  1. Write the symbols side-by-side basic radical is written first and then acidic radical .
  2. Write the valency of each atom on top of its symbol .
  3. Ignore the + or - symbols of the radicals .
  4. Divide the valency numbers by the highest common factor (HCF) if any two get the simplest ratio .
  5. interchange the valency is after radicals .
  6. Write the interchange the valency numbers to the lower right of the radical left the radical is a group of atoms and has the valency number more than one enclose it within parentheses .

For eg:

Potassium Chloride - K1+Cl1-

potassium Bromide - K1+Br1-

potassium iodide - K1+I1-
