there are four major kind of soils found in India;
1.Alluvial soil,also known as transported soil
▪they are found in the river valley(ganga and brahmaputra).
▪very fertile and cover 40% area of India.
▪main mineral are: potash and CaO.
▪crops grown:rice,wheat, oilseed &sugarcane.


2.Black soil,also known as regur soil
▪they are found in valley of Godavary,Krishna,Narmada and Tapi river.
▪a good moisture holder
▪main mineral:CaO,Mg,Ca,Fe,potash and alumina.
▪crops grown:cotton,oilseed,tobacco & sugarcane.

3.Red soil, in "situ"
▪found in eastern part of deccan plateau, kerala, T.N ,Chhota nagpur plateau.
▪porous and crumbly in nature.
▪main minerals:Fe
▪crops grown:wheat, cotton, pulses, rice & sugarcane.

4.Laterite soil
▪found in hill summits of eastern and western ghats and Assam hills.
▪acidic and porous in nature
▪main minerals : Fe
▪crops grown : coffee, rubber, cashew & tapioca.
