The common name of CaOCl2 is Bleaching powder.
By passing chlorine into dry slaked lime (Ca(OH)2) Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 → CaOCl2.
Two uses: (i) Used for bleaching cotton and linen in the textile industry and wood pulp in paper industry etc.
(ii) It is used for disinfecting drinking water.
Washing Soda - Na2CO3.10H2O
By heating baking soda, sodium carbonate is obtained, its recrystallisation gives washing soda.
2NaHCO3 (heat)--> Na2CO3 + H2O + CO2
Na2CO3 + 10H2O --> Na2CO3.10H2O
