Deforestation : Cutting down of trees in large scale is called as deforestation.
Consequences of Deforestation are as follows :
- Soil erosion will increase which will adversely affect soil fertility and productivity.
- There will be a scarcity of forest products.
- Wildlife will not be able to survive in the absence of forests.
- In absence of forests, it will lead to reduced rainfall and increased temperature.
- Animals will lose their natural habitat and they might even die.
- With no plants and trees to hold the soil together, the soil gets washed away by strong winds and flowing water.
- It will also be very difficult to recharge the existing water resources without forests.
