Mary Howitt's poem "The Spider and the Fly" is about the cunning spider who allures the fly and traps it. The poem teaches the readers to be attentive and weary against the people who want to make their work done by flattering. The spider seduces and flatters the fly in order to make it fall in its trap. His intentions were of evil nature which makes the reader much cautious about such a person in their life. Not to fall in the trap of flattery as it can have evil faces hidden behind them is the main theme of the poem.

Answer:

The Spider and the Fly was written by Mary Howitt and it is considered as a fable. The background of this poem is based on dark humour and like other fables; the characters of this poems also convey moral lesions.

The characterization of this poem is based on anthropomorphize model because all of the characters of this poem are non human and involved with the human behaviours.
