Oscillation whose amplitude reduce with time are called damped oscillation.This happen because of the friction.

In oscillation if its amplitude doesn’t change with time then they are called Undamped oscillation.

This Undamped oscillations are only possible if friction is not present. We can never have a situation in which friction is not present. We can’t get perfect Undamped oscillation but if we use lubricant then we can have nearly undapmed oscillation.

And, most of the oscillation that we see in our daily life are damped oscillation.

 \huge \text{Damped\: Oscillations }

✍ These are the oscillations in which the amplitude of the body decreases with time. The amplitude increases due to dissipation of energy.

✍ Examples : Oscillations of Bob of a simple pendulum in air.

✍ Oscillations of prongs of A tuning fork in air.

 \huge \text{Undamped\: Oscillations }

✍ These are the oscillations in which the amplitude of the body remains same with the time. There is no dissipation of energy in the case.

✍ Example : Oscillations of Bob of a simple pendulum in vacuum.
