Potential difference current transfers between any two points in the circuit where as electromotive force transmits current both inside and outside the cell. Potential difference is the result where as electromotive force emf is the cause.Potential difference of two points depends on the resistance of those points where as electromotive force does not depend on the resistance of the circuit.

potential difference is the work done to bring an unit +ve charge from higher potential to lower potential.emf is the electromotive force.its the work done by the chemical force supplied by cell or battery to move an electron from -ve terminal to+ve terminal
