The “sphere” in lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere means envelop. The atmosphere, therefore, consists of gases that envelop the Earth. The hydrosphere defines the water that covers 71% of the Earth's surface. The lithosphere refers to the rocks of the Earth's surface and upper mantle, or the depth of the plates.

1)The hydrosphere is composed of all the water on/below/above the surface of the lithosphere. For example, on including oceans, lakes, rivers, water-lands etc. On the above it refers to the water in the atmosphere, in a liquid or in a vapour state and on the below it refers to the underground water.

The lithosphere is the simply the scientific name of for the earth's crust. It is the solid outer part of the earth, whose thickness range is from 42 miles to 52 miles.

2) 71% of the earth's total mass is assumed by the hydrosphere.

29% of the earth's total mass is assumed by the lithosphere.
