calcination process is used to extract sulphide ore
roasting process is used to extract oxide ore
calcination process occurs in the absence of air whereas roasting process occurs in the presence of air

1. Roasting is a pyrochemical process in which the ore is heated in the presence of oxygen or air is below its melting point roasting is done in reverberatory furnace.

2.Calcination is also a pyrochemical process  in which ore is heated in the absence of air

3.Smelting is a pyrochemical process, in which the ore is mixed with flux and fuel then is strongly heated. Smelting is carried out in a specially built furnace known as blast furnace.
