There are two major differences between the administration of the English East India Company and Indian rulers.​

1- The power was generally inherited from one generation to the other by Indian rulers. There was no democratic system until the British East India Company arrived in India. In East India Company the administrators were assigned by the constitutional government. i.e Great Britain.

2- Under the subsidiary alliance both the Indian and British government were not working for public rights. Both were exploiting the wealth of the people. Accumulated wealth by Indian rulers used to remain in their custody, while the exploited wealth by the British would go out of the country.
