LH or Luteinizing hormone is responsible for the maturity of the Graafian follicle and ovulation. LH is secreted by the pituitary.

The effect of Luteinizing hormone on a mature Graafian follicle:

It plays a ‘major role’ in the Graafian follicle development and rupture of the follicle to release the ovum or the secondary oocyte, a process known as ovulation. LH is responsible for the formation of corpus luteum after ovulation. LH usually acts together with the ‘follicle stimulating hormone’ (FSH) to enable ovulation.
