When we write the configuration we'll put all 13 electrons in orbitals around the nucleus of the Aluminium atom. ... Therefore the Aluminium electron configuration will be 1s22s22p63s23

The electronic configuration of Al(13) is written as follows: 1s² 2s² 2p⁶3s²3p¹.

1s² 2s² 2p⁶ is the electronic configuration of neon. Hence, the electronic configuration of Al can also be written as [Ne] 3s²3p¹.

  • First shell in an atom has only one orbital and it can house only 2 electrons. Therefore, 2 electrons out of 13 are present in 1s orbital. 11 electrons remain now.
  • Second shell has p orbital besides s orbital. p orbital can contain up to 6 electrons. Thus, 2s will have another 2 electrons and p will have 6 electrons. Thus, 8 electrons out of 11 are filed in the second orbital. Now, 3 electrons are remaining.
  • Third shell has d orbital too which can take up to ten electrons.
