To understand photo respiration we have to know a little bit more about the first step of the calvin pathway the first Co2 fixation step this is the reaction when rubisco enzyme combines with Co2 to form two molecules of 3 PGA that is catalyzed by RuBP,
RuBP+CO2=2×3PGA( catalyst is rubisco)
Dc3 and C4 plants are also differentiate on the basis of amount of carbon dioxide,

take a plant take only one leaf of the plant put half leave that any of the plant into the test tube and then close the mouth of test tube with cork you must notice that don't forget to put some potassium Hydroxide in test tube because it will absorb all co2 present in the leaf of that plant.leave it for 2/ 3 days
than pluck that leaf from its position in plant.and add 2/3 drops of iodine solution.it will gain blueish black color on only that part which was not embedded in the test tube.and the part that is embedded in the test tube do not gain that one color becausr of the absence of starch.
so its understood that whats the role of co2 in the process of photosynthesis.
