There are two factors that determine what state of matter a material will be in: pressure and temperature.
1. temperature:Water's phase changes can be driven by temperature. Heat it up and it goes from solid to liquid, and eventually liquid to gas.
2.pressure:Pressure also affects what state of matter a material can be in. For example, at sea level pressure, dry ice (CO2 gas) goes straight from solid to gas, a process called sublimation. However, if you increase the pressure (like in a pressure cooker) then you can have liquid CO2.
A full diagram of how pressure and temperature affect state of matter is called a phase diagram. i hve given the picture of phase diagram for water above.consider it .
