Well, considering that u asked for the function of penis (The male reproductive part)
Penis is the male reproductive part in most of the mammals, the other components involved in male reproductive parts are testis, vas defference, epididymous, rete tetis.
The important function of penis is the transfer of sperms produced by the testis.into the female vagina. Penis act as the transport system for the sperms to be transfered into the female body.
Penis gland is made of thin epithilial tissues which gets filled with blood during erection.
Various hormones are involved in this process.
Hormones like seminal vesicles,nutrients enzymes produced by prostate glands increase the nutrition content in the sperm and its fluidity making its passage easier through the penis.

The penis is found in mammals and functions as both the reproduction and excretion purposes. For reproduction, it is erected during sexual intercourse so that the sperm can be transferred in the vagina of female it travels through the urethra and reaches to the tip of the penis from where it exists the body.
