It transports proteins to various destinations like the plasma membrane. SER or the smooth endoplasmic reticulum helps mainly in the synthesis of lipids . RER or the rough endoplasmic reticulum helps in the synthesis of proteins..

SER : Smooth endoplasmic reticulum

  • they don't have ribosomes attached to the membrane
