They are the soft ,flexible, electron microscopic, transparent membrane of the cell.It is found outside the animal cell and in plant cell it lies inside the cell wall.The most accepted model of P.M was fluid mosaic model suggested by Singer and Nicolson in 1972.They siggested that the plasma membrane is made up of bilayer of proteins.
FUNCTIONS :
They are known as selectively permeable membrane because they in and out only selective substance according to its requirements. They are perform some physical activities i.e.,Osmosis and Diffusion.

SER is without ribosomes on its surface and is meant for secreting lipids.
