(i) Ozone depletion occurs widely in the stratosphere. Its major impact has been felt in the Antarctic region in the form of what is known as the ozone hole.

(ii) Ozone acts as a shield that prevents harmful UV radiations from entering the earth’s atmosphere. Ozone depletion causes these radiations to enter earth’s atmosphere.

(iii) The UV radiations cause skin darkening, skin cancer, ageing and corneal cataracts.

(iv) These harmful effects are observed because exposure to UV radiations results in lethal mutations in the cellular DNA.

(v) It can also cause the death of phytoplanktons, and an increase in global warming.

Hope this will help you.
