oxidation reaction and reduction are both in this following reaction means (redox reaction)

MnO2+4HCL gives us MnCl+2H2O+3CL

here magnesium oxide (Mno2) is reduced
And hydro chloric acid is oxidised (4HCL)

Oxidation and Reduction.
====================================

Oxidation is referred to the increase electronegative properties.
but here you have been used the word in terms of gain or loss of electron.
so,
The process in which loss of electron take place is called oxidation.are a process which involves loss of electron by an atom or group of atoms is called oxidation.
some example are

Na-------------------》(Na+) + (e-)

Mg-------------------》(Mg2+) + (2e-)

Reduction.

A process which involves gain of electron by an atom or group of atoms.

its example is

(Fe3+) +( e-)-------------------》Fe2+
