Electronic Configuration of the Ni = 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁶ 4s² 3d⁸

∴ In the Complex Salt, [NiCl₄]²⁻,

the total number of the valence electrons in the Ni = 2

No. of monovalent atom = 4

Charge = -2

∴ Z = 1/2 ( no. of valence electrons in central atom + no. of monovalent atom + Magnitude of negative charge on whole compound - magnitude of positive charge on whole compound)

⇒ Z = (2 + 4 + 2)/2

∴ Z = 4

Now, Z is the measurement for calculating hybridization. It tells the no. of sigma bond and lone pair in compound.

∴ Hybridization = sp³

Geometry = Tetrahedral.

Bond Angle = 109.5°

Hope it helps.
