• it is formed by weathering the deccan lava and it is found in major parys like maharashtra, western side etc
• it is rich in soil nutrients like calcium,carbonate, magnesium etc but poor in phosphoric content.
• it develops deep cracks during hot weather helping in proper aeration of the soil.
