Solution:
The number line is a representative of the positive and negative integers. On the center of the number line, zero is placed and positive numbers are located on the right-hand side of zero, and negative numbers are placed on the left-hand side of zero. The negative integers that are nearer to zero will be greater than the negative integer located at a far distance on the number line. The positive integers located at a far distance will be greater than the postive integers located near zero.
Take the integers -5 and -10. These two numbers are on the left side of the number line. The integers between them are -6, -7, -8, and -9. The greatest and smallest integer among them is -6 and -9 respectively.
Take the integers 3 and -2. -2 is on the left-hand side and 3 is on the right-hand side on the number line. The integers that will lie between them are 2, 1, 0, and -1. The greatest and smallest integer among them is 2 and -1 respectively.
Take the integers -8 and 5. -8 is on the left-hand side and 5 is on the right-hand side on the number line. The integers that will lie between them are -7, -6, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. The greatest and smallest integer among them is 4 and -7 respectively.
