His main achievements were reorganisation of the military and taking stern action against the corrupt nobility of the court. The nobles under the king at that time were notorious for their corruption and treachery. He punished them severely and cut down their powers.
Ghiasuddin Balban (1266 – 1287) belonged to the Mamluk dynasty who ruled Delhi between 1206 to 1290. He was born a Turkish slave who was captured by the Mongols and subsequently sold to King Shamsuddin Iltutmish, where he gradually rose to power.
