'Shorting' is basically short form of "short selling". It is basically done with the sole motive of earning profits by purchasing the securities at a lower price later on, and felt that the present price of the securities are higher, and will go down in future. After shorting, same securities are again purchased considering market condition with booking profits or loss, termed as "short covering".
