MERITS OF DEMOCRACY

  • Democracy enhances dignity of citizen :- This implies that democracy gives citizens some rights such as Right to equality, Right to vote etc. and these rights are for every citizen of India irrespective of their caste, creed, gender and religion

  • Democratic government is more accountable form of government :- It implies that democracy leads to better decisions than any other form of government because this form of government consult with discussions and consultation. So, we can find accurate results in democratic form of government and there is less chances of irresponsible decisions.

  • Democracy allows government to correct its own mistakes :- It implies that if any mistake is committed by the government then it can't be hidden because the media will show this mistake to all the people and there is also judiciary which can identify the mistakes and can order it to be corrected.

DEMERITS OF DEMOCRACY

  • Leaders keep changing due to which it leads to political instability :- It means that in a particular period of time leaders change due to which there is instability. For instance:- Let us take example of India where in every five years the leaders change so any leader who have understood the way of serving people and just started his work then in few years his works will remain incomplete because of lack of time.

  • Democracy is all about the power of leaders and political competition due to which there is no scope of morality :- It implies that the political leaders only look for the competition of other leaders and demerits of the opposition due to which he/she never concentrates on his/her work and by this to win an election they forget all their morality and wish of people

  • As many people are involved in decisions making it lead to delays :- It is also true as there are many steps by which conclusion comes due to which delays are occurred. For example:- To pass a bill of law we have to pass it in Parliament and then Rajya Sabha due to which much of time is consumed and it leads to delays.
