1. Take the potted plant and keep it in a dark place for 2-3 days so that the leaves get destarched.

2. Cover a part of one of its leaves with the strip of black paper. Make sure that you cover both the sides of the leaf.

3. Now place this plant in sunlight for 3—4 hours.

4. Pluck the selected covered leaf and remove the black paper covering it.

5. Place this leaf in the beaker containing water and boil it for about 10 minutes.

6. Take out the leaf and now boil it in alcohol, using the water bath, for 10 minutes. This removes the chlorophyll.

7. Take out the leaf and wash it under running water.

1. We take a potted plant having green leaves and place it in a completely dark place for about three days to destarch its leaves. So that the leaves don't have starch on them.
2. Take a thin strip of aluminium foil and wrap it in the centre of the leaf on both sides to avoid sunlight. The remaining part should be uncovered.
3. Keep the potted plant in bright sunshine for three to four days.
4. Pluck the partially leaf from the plant and remove the foil This will break down the cell membrane.
5. Put the plucked leaf in the beaker containing some alcohol. Now put that beaker in a water bath (big beaker containing water). Now heat it at a high flame.
6. When we heat water in water bath then the leaf in the alcohol will also heat. This will remove chlorophyll from the leaf. The leaf will become colorless and alcohol will turn into green color.
7. Place the colorless leaf in a petri-dish. Drop iodine solution on the leaf with the help of dropper. Observe the change in color of leaf.
8. The part covered by foil with remain colorless but the other part will change into blue-black color. This means the part not covered by foil can do photosynthesis and make starch but covered part don't do photosynthesis and make starch.

So we conclude that, SUNLIGHT IS NECESSARY FOR PHOTOSYNTHESIS.
