Parts of Speech

In English, the main parts of Speech are noun, pronoun, adjective, determiner, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection.

=> Noun : • Simply, Naming words are called Noun. The word (other than pronoun) which denotes a person, place, thing, animal etc.

• Nouns are divided into : Common noun (class of people things etc), Proper noun (particular)

• Eg : woman, bed, park, dog

=> Pronoun : • Simply, the word used to displace noun, the word used instead of noun.

• Eg : I, me , her, it, you

=> Adjective : • It is describing words, used to qualify a noun or noun phrase.

• Eg : Interesting book (adjective : interesting)

=> Determiner : • Determiners are words placed in front of a noun to make it clear what the noun refers to.

• Eg : that, a, an, those, this

=> Verb : • Action words are called Verb, the word that conveys an action.

• Eg : Say, sing, walk.

=> Adverb : • just as the pronoun is used to displace noun, Adverb is used to displace verb.

• eg : fast run (fast : adverb)

=> Preposition : • As the name implies, the words used to denote position of a noun

• Eg : Across the bridge (across : preposition)

=> Conjunction : • The words used to connect two sentences or clauses.

• Eg : and, but, if

=> Interjection : • Part of Speech which is used informally, for expressing sudden feelings or emotions.

• Eg : eww! yum! God!
