If chlorine will react with an element of electronic configuration 2, 8, 1 Ionic bond will be formed because the element will lose electron and chlorine will gain the same.

And the formula will be XCl if the element is X.

The bond formed is Electrovalent bond.

As the element with one valence electron in outermost shell is metal and chlorine is a non-metal. Hence, Ionic bond or electrovalent bond will be the answer.
