Steps of EMP and it's full form is given below -
The nine steps of EMP pathway are -
Step 1
Phosphorylation which converts glucose to glucose 6 phosphate.
Step 2
Isomerisation which converts glucose 6 phosphate to fructose 6 phosphate.
Step 3
Again phosphorylation forming fructose 1, 6 biphosphate.
Step 4
Here fructose 1,6 biphosphate converts to Glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate and dihydroxy acetone phosphate, both of which are isomers.
Step 5
Here again phosphorylation occurs which converts glyceraldehyde 3phosphate to 1,3 biphosphoglycerate.
Step 6
Now dephosphorylation removes phosphate group resulting in formation of phosphoglycerate with ATP.
Step 7
Isomerisation by phosphoglyceromutase yields 2-phosphoglycerate.
Step 8
Removal of water molecule takes place to form phosphoenolpyruvate.
Step 9
Now the final product pyruvate forms along with ATP by transfer of phosphate from phosphoenolpyruvate to ADP.
Step 1 and Step 3 utilizes ATP. EMP stands for Embden Meyerhof parnas pathway.
