3 SIDED: A triangle has zero diagonals. A diagonal connects any two non-consecutive vertices of a polygon. The problem is in a triangle all vertices are consecutive: there are no unconnected vertices.
n(n-3)/2 = 3(3-3/2) = 3*0 = 0
5 SIDED: A regular pentagon has 5 diagonals on the inside of the shape.
The diagonals of any poygon can be calculated using the formula n× (n-3)/2
where n is the number of sides, in case of a pentagon which "n" will be 5,
5*(5-3)/2 = 5*(2/2) = 5*1 = 5
7 SIDED: A heptagon has 14 diagonals. The number of diagonals can be found by: n•(n-3)/2.
So in this case :7•(7 - 3)/2 = 7•4/2 = 14 diagonals.
